In the recipe for some medications, the active ingredient is a mixture of different forms of the molecule. When creating Credelio, Elanco discovered that only one part of the mixture was necessary to get the desired effect. So Elanco takes the extra step to filter out the part of the mixture that isn’t needed, leaving only lotilaner, the purified active ingredient, which means your dog only takes what he needs.
Imagine you were making a recipe that only called for an egg yolk. So, would you include the whole egg when only the yolk is needed? Think of lotilaner as the egg yolk in the egg. Credelio uses only the part you need and not what you don't.
Some may argue that this extra purification step isn’t necessary, that as long as the active ingredient is there in the mixture, you’ll get the same outcome. Elanco thinks differently.

Credelio kills adult fleas and is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations and treatment and control of tick infestations (lone star tick, American dog tick, black-legged tick, and brown dog tick) for one month in dogs and puppies 8 weeks and older and 4.4 pounds or greater.
Lotilaner is a member of the isoxazoline class of drugs. This class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, incoordination, and seizures. Seizures have been reported in dogs receiving this class of drugs, even in dogs without a history of seizures. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. The safe use of Credelio in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. The most frequently reported adverse reactions are weight loss, elevated blood urea nitrogen, increased urination, and diarrhea.
